A more immersive way to experience your designs as 360 panoramas

Step inside your designs

With Lumion you can easily create 360 panoramas that are suitable for VR.

They offer a more immersive way to experience your designs, helping everyone get a better sense of the space at all stages of the design-to-construction process.

How Lumion panoramas work

Lumion’s 360 panoramas and VR-ready images are available as high-quality photo bubbles.

With these photo bubbles, you are able to view the space from your desired location. By moving seamlessly from one photo bubble to another, you can explore different parts of your design, while retaining control over the parts of the designs you want to highlight.

With Lumion’s method of making 360 panoramas and VR-ready photo bubbles, you can:

  • Maintain full control of what the client can view by specifying the exact position of the panoramas, thus allowing you to better tell your design story.

  • Avoid the risks commonly associated with full-on dynamic VR (customer isolation, graphics performance, quality of output, difficult technical set-up in a customer environment)

  • Reduce the time it takes to make VR a part of your presentation, as you don’t have to prepare and render every angle of your building. Instead, you can simply build and render the spaces that the client needs to see.

Easily render panoramas

Simply click the panorama button to enter Panorama Mode in Lumion.

The first step is to assign a viewpoint and choose an area of the project you wish to render. You can render multiple viewpoints to show the various spaces throughout your design.

From here you can render 360 panoramas and upload them directly to MyLumion.

You will automatically receive an email with a link to view and share the result with clients or colleagues.

For a complete overview of Lumion's panorama settings, check our Knowledge Base guide.

Fit for every screen

A link to MyLumion works on any browser or device, making it easy to share your work faster.

You can explore projects in full screen and rotate your viewpoint in every direction.

3 tips for creating better VR experiences in Lumion

  1. Make sure the VR experience has a specific purpose

Before you hit the “render” button in Lumion’s 360 panorama mode, take a moment to determine the specific purpose of the VR experience. Make sure you have a clear objective and develop a clear vision for the story you want to tell.

  2. Start with small, controlled experiences in your client presentations

If you have never introduced VR in a client presentation, that’s okay. You need to start somewhere. Instead of introducing VR as the focal point of the presentation, consider starting small and include images or even animations to complete the experience.

  3. Help your clients navigate the VR experience

As a client, viewing designs on a VR headset can be an isolating experience. They may be looking at a specific feature of your design, but without you to guide them and provide the necessary context, it’s easy for misunderstandings to occur.

Waypoints can help clients better orient themselves at any moment and are a great way for guiding the experience. You can also turn VR into a social experience by sharing the content of the VR headset onto an external screen.

Frequently asked questions

The render time depends on the number of viewpoints. The render time is about the same as rendering 18 stills or ~0.5 seconds of video in Lumion.

The absolute render time depends on the complexity of the scene and the speed of the workstation, but a typical render of 10 viewpoints takes about 5 to 10 minutes on an average workstation.

To view the results online you need a browser that supports WebGL and Java-script. In general, this should include most modern browsers on both desktop and mobile devices. More info here.

To create a panorama on MyLumion, you need to use Lumion or Lumion Pro. The minimum requirements are listed on this page.

No. MyLumion is free to use. This means anyone with a valid license for Lumion can directly upload their panoramas to MyLumion and share them via a link.

MyLumion is a website where you can upload 360 panoramas made in Lumion.

A 360 panorama is different from movies and videos because people can look around. It is a kind of ‘Google Street View’ for your own designs. Viewers can pick a position in the scene and view a building, a park or any other location from that position.

To view a 360 panorama, you will need a special web link. This link contains a long random code which is nearly impossible to guess.

This means that if you provide someone with the link, then they can view the panorama. Without the link, it is highly unlikely, though not impossible, that someone will be able to guess the web link of your panorama.

MyLumion is currently undergoing beta testing. This means you can use the service ‘as is’.

You can already send your clients a link but please be aware that the service might be interrupted or we might change elements. We are dedicated to keeping everything running smoothly but please understand that the site is still undergoing testing.

The current beta version has the following limitations:

  • Max 10 viewpoints per panorama

  • Max 10 panoramas per Lumion license

  • No password protection

When you exceed the limit of 10 panoramas per Lumion license, you are required to make room for any new project you want to upload.

Currently there is no dedicated app to view project. We have focused on making MyLumion compatible with mobile browsers instead of an app.
